A friend of mine uses HTML format for messages in Outlook. He would like to
know if it is possible to show the icon for any attachment when he prints
emails he receives.

TIA

Change the format of the message to Plain Text and the attachment name
should print.

That doesn't appear to be an option in a message received in HTML - when it
is opened, the format is greyed out.

Version of outlook? Does he have the latest office service pack installed?

Click Edit>Edit Message. Then the Format>Plain Text item will be available.
