primary key

In Access 2003 how do you set up a primary key where there is duplicate
values. do you have to set it up before you import the data. for e.g. i'm
using an xml file to create tables, but when I try to set the primary key
after importing the data it does not allow the necessary changes.

If the duplicates are resolved first, uou can use a natural or surrogate
(autonumber) Primary Key. If they are not resolved before importation, you
can only use a surrogate key.
