I am having problems when I start up my PC. The following
message appears:

trend chipawayvirus(r)onguard ver1.63a
found cdrom:samsung cd-r/rw drive sw-208b

primary master hard disk fail

07/27/2000-693a/596b-w97-2a6lgqifc-oo

I have tried to reboot the system but it just restarts
itself then displays the same message.

I would appreciate any help

thanks

Sounds like your hard drive died. You could go to the hard drive
manufacturer's website and download any diagnostic tools they have and see
if you get any results. But if the bios isn't seeing the drive at all, it's
not a good sign.

You might try opening the case to see if you have any loose cables to the
drive, but that's a longshot if you haven't been in there to loosen them in
the first place. Or try replacing the cable.

But...chances are it's a dead hard drive.

I agree, it could be a dead drive. But, I would say to open the computer
and see if the Primary Master Hard Drive is jumpered correctly. I was
just having the same problem. Will happen if you've got a lot of IDE
drives. ;)
