I can no longer preview image files in Windows Explorer or My
Computer.

The right-click menu no longer contains that selection.

How can I regain/restore that capability?

Thank You
Jentle Jiant

Forgive my paranoia. But.. that seems to be a registry change, which
makes me aprehensive (based on a past screwup which caused no end of
problems.

Is your suggestion reversible? If so, how?

BTW, That dll appears in several places in the registry

Thanks for the feedbacl

All it does is re-register the file.
The /u is for unregister which means DISABLE.
To reverse....
regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll

[[You can use the Regsvr32 tool (Regsvr32.exe) to register and unregister
object linking and embedding (OLE) controls such as dynamic-link library
(DLL) or ActiveX Controls (OCX) files that are self-registerable.]]
[[When you use Regsvr32.exe, it attempts to load the component and call its
DLLSelfRegister function. If this attempt is successful, Regsvr32.exe
displays a dialog indicating success. If the attempt is unsuccessful,
Regsvr32.exe returns an error message, which may include a Win32 error
code.]]

It's also how it was installed in the first place.
