I have heard that update KB933928 causes the problem, in Windows Mail, that
you can't open the Contacts when creating a new message. Since "installing
updates" happens "automatically", how can I prevent this specific update
from installing? Every time it does, I have to go back to Control panel,
uninstall it, and restart, just to be able to create new messages. Has
there been a fix for this created by Microsoft?

As they say, it takes two to tango.
Most users have no problem with the KB933928 update.
So, there is something else present on the problem computers.
It could be anti-spyware or some other non-compatible program.
Blocking Microsoft updates is not a viable solution.

My advice for those having this problem is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail:
