i don't think i've got any security options turned on..but suddently, when i
burn presentations to CD now the ppt presentations become read only...the
message says this is because of an embedded TTF. However, even with the embed
option turned off, and the presentations saved under a different name, they
still become read only on the CD. i need to change this urgently..

Are you using PowerPoint 2003 and Package for CD? Are you burning to a CD-R or
a CD-RW?

Thanks for replying, Sonia...I'm using PPT 2002, XP. In this instance was
burning to a CD-R but not using Package for CD. Is this my problem?

No. See my other reply. Files burned to a CD-R are all Read Only. That's
because files on a CD-R cannot be changed. When you need to change a file you
must move it to your hard drive and remove the Read Only attribute.

This should help understand what's going on:

PowerPoint opens presentations as Read-Only, won't allow editing when fonts
embedded

As Sonia points out, all files on (or copied from) a CD are read-only but the
message you're getting suggests it *might* also be a font embedding rights
problem.

Do you get the message about embedded fonts when you open the presentation on
your own PC (where all the original fonts are installed, I assume?) or only when
opening it on other PCs that don't have the fonts installed?
