premature log off - win xp home

After a period of idleness (undetermined since it
happens when I'm not around) my computer, running win xp
home, will automatically (unattended) log off. This is
particularly annoying since I run unattended backups at
night.

check your power management, right click on desktop, properties, screen
saver at the bottom you should see power, make sure all settings turn off
monitor and hard drives and system standby are at none. and the at top
hibernate make sure that it enable hibernate is unticked an apply all that
should sort it out

Is fast user switching enabled? This feature seems to revert the PC back to
the user screen after a little while.
