can anyone please tell me how to remove a factory
preinstalled windows xp home edition(norton ghost image
with two image disks supplied) so i can install a new
copy of xp pro i bought.
the problem with the preinstalled version of windows is
that everytime something goes wrong i have to completely
reinstall xp home because their is no option to repair it
like the you can do if you have a full installation disk.
i would also like to have two operating systems on one
hard drive but found impossible to remove the existing
operating system.
i believe the preinstalled version of windows xp is
locked in to the hard drive!
help would be great on this matter.
many thanks,

the preinstalled os is not "locked into the hard drive".
if you have a retail xp cd, go into your bios and change
the boot order to boot from cd first.
insert you xp cd in the drive and reboot.
follow the screen prompts to format and reinstall xp.

Note: doing this may void your warranty and support from the manufacturer.

*Warning - you will lose all data*

Boot to the xp cd and follow the on-screen instructions. The cd is bootable
and has all the tools to format and install.

Or,

Boot to a win9x floppy boot disk, run Fdisk, delete partitions, create new
partitions, reboot to boot disk again, run format, (or reboot to xp cd,
format, install xp). Get boot disk here: www.bootdisk.com

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of
the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of
boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
