Is there any benefit in occasionally cleaning out the prefetch folder ?

There is conflicting advice on Google

since windows does not remove items that are no longer valid, the only way to remove them is to clean the prefetch folder occasionally.

prevents the system from chasing its tail looking for the invalid items.
