Prefacing filename with '-' does NOT change folder sort order

If I have files A,B,C and I rename B to -B, they list
in same order : A,-B,C but I know from previos
experiment that the 4 single chars sort as -,A,B,C

Is this a problem with my PC or do they all do this?
BTW if I use ¬ instead of -, they sort properly as
¬B,A,C

Your help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks- bye- Larry

Any advice given is my attempt to show appreciation for all
the excellent help I've received here but I'm no MVP so it
may only apply NUGS. Personal attacks, nitpicking & criticism
of anything but content will NOT be responded to. Those

Use the under-score _ instead of the -

Or add a number.

TY Jim. Actually I used ¬ .
What I'm wondering : Is just my or everyone's sort
busted?

I use +,=,¬ prefix in Favorites names to indicate
'good, visited but no opinion, and bad 'urls. Nothing
means never looked at. They sort in that order in
subfolders so I'm never looking at more 15.

Comments/suggestions/corrections appreciated.

I have not tried your sort method so I can't say about
everyone's. I'll try it some time when I have the time to
mess with it. I usually just delete bad URLs and so-so ones
too, why bother with anything but good ones. I have folders
for subjects such as aviation, politics, computers.

I get alot from mostly magazines so ranking keeps me
from re-evaluating, particularily ones I hardly use
like museums or security or color spaces.

Any experiment u could do I would appreciate. Windows
sort order is mystery no one seems to know. It's not
ASCII cause 7A ascii = z would then sort b4 7B ascii =
{ but in XP all special chars including { sort b4 all
alpa-numerics.

Of course, ASCII differentiates between caps & no caps.
Like Z = 5A and z = 7A. SEE
http://www.webopedia.com/quick_ref/asciicode.asp

This is an aside from my original post which deals with
XP not sorting consistently.

Thx mucho. Larry

Kelly has a couple of fixes with the words "sort order". Perhaps line
107, left: "change the sort order back to pre-XP"

TY Maureen - I know I tried it but as I recall it has
to do with numerics: 3 20 vs 20 3

I know on my PC { then ~ then A-Z which is NOT ASCII
sequence nor is it CharMap sequence A-Z then { then ~ .

So I was pragmatic & created ~.doc & {.doc & -.doc &...
for a bunch of special chars along with 9.doc, 0.doc,
a.doc, & z.doc. in folder & saw how they sorted. I then
went to folder containing A,B,C & changed B to -B but
instead of having -B A C it sorted A -B C. WTF!!

My search is for a special character that sorts after z
but without knowing sort order that is alot of work &
may have no solution.

Comments/suggestions/corrections appreciated.
