After just formating XP, i want it to be the last for some time. Is there a
way i can update the free version of AVG anti-virus program before actually
connecting to the internet? I have a windows 98 computer with conection ot
the internet and downloaded the installer with that. Is there a way to update
it with this then transfer the updates to my computer (XP) without conecting?
If ya get wat i mean?
thanks heaps everyone

Use a cable/DSL Router such as the Linksys BEFSR41 and you won't be susceptible to worms and
hackers during the updating process.

Additionally, using a Router both the Win98 PC and the WinXP PC can share the one Broadband
Internet WAN address.

Make sure there is a firewall active before you go online. See these links:

Im on dialup sorry lol. Broadband is not an option where i live... Otherwise
i would. Do avg release a stand alone virus updater or something?
Or do the updated lists save to a file(s) somewhere?
Thanks for feedback

You can order the Windows SP2 update CD from MS online or by calling
them. Some computer stores may also have it available. If you already
have SP2 installed, make sure that you have FILE & PRINTER SHARING
disabled (unchecked) in the firewall and also in your TCP/IP Settings
for the dial-up adapter.

Once you have the firewall setup and file/printer sharing disabled for
the Dial-Up Adapter, you should be able to get online and download
updates/products without much threat.

What you need is a firewall. XP has one built in.
