Hello

Several colleagues ran into an issue with PPT in show mode and the
task bar. I've donw a quick look through the archives and found some
discussion, but on the exact problem they had. I suspect it is all
working as designed, but is a rather obscure and seemingly
undocumented "feaure".

They were doing a presentstion that consisted of basically white text
on a black background. During one of the rehearsal days, a white line
appeared at the bottom of the screen, the full width of the screen.
Nobody could figure out where it came from. I looked at the file on
another computer and couldn't see anything wrong. I made some
suggestions to try with the projector set up but they did not help.

Later, the mouse got bumped to the bottom of the screen, and the task
bar appeared, rather emberassingly. They quickly discovered that under
task bar properties if both the "always on top" and "autohide" were
turned on, then there is a white line across the bottom of the screen
for the whole show, and the task bar pops up if the cursor lands on
this line. I was able to duplicate this on two other compuers, all
running PPT2000 on WIN98SE.

Dammed annoying to discover the hard way. I always thought PPT "took
over" the display, to be on top. If only either setting is selected,
this doesn't happen. Only when both are. Also, most times, a thin
white line across the bottom may not be noticeable, but in their case
it was glaringly wrong! I've also looked quickly through the FAQ and
haven't found mention of this.

Again, it may all be by design, but if you don't know that it does
that, it can bite you.

Thanks
