i have been sent a email attactment which is in pps format
how do i open it i'm using windows xp home

To edit you'll need to purchase Powerpoint.

Sure it's not ppt?

It could very well be a .pps file - that's a PowerPoint Slide Show
file. They are self contained and can be run without PowerPoint or
the PowerPoint viewer being installed. Note you can't edit the
slides, only view them.

Having said that, to the OP: this is not relevant to this NG. For
more information, move to a NG relating to Office or PowerPoint (there
are several) and ask the question there.

I respectfully disagree..

....if the OP was aware that .pps or .ppt was associated with Powerpoint,
then you have a valid point.

My take on the OP was that he was trying to determine which app he needed to
use to open the attachement. So IMHO, this group was is a valid place to
make such a request.
