Win xp crasshed. Had to reinstall. My main hard drive is recognized but my 2nd one is not. Drivers are installed and computer mgmt recognizes it but not Windows explorer. It worked prior to the crash/re-install. It is NTFS. I have tried right clicking on it in computer mgmt but all I get is Delete Partition, or help. All else is grey'd out. Microsoft said it is because of using Powerquest DataBackup. The registry"lost its pointers" to the drive upon reinstallation. My backups on on the non-recognized drive so deleting the partition is not an option and I cannot redownload the DataBackup or partitionMagik (can't find a linkto it on the site). Anyone else run into this

I have never used Powerquest for this reason.. sorry, can't help but good
luck anyway.. :)

Let's go back a step. What was the symptoms of the "crash"? What caused
you to decide to do a reinstall, rather than a repair install? Has
whatever caused the crash been fixed?

I never heard of "pointers" to drive in the registry ... the registry is
for the system and applications, not for the drives. Maybe it's just
different nomenclature. Does your BIOS recognise the 2nd drive? If not,
why not?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I think a virus hit even though I use /norton System Works and don't open attachments. One day Norton Auto protect would not start. When I tried to manually start it I kept getting "script error" Live update was good. I did the 1 button scan by Norton system works and got errors "Scanner not installed, please re-install NSW". I did then I could not get online (cable modem through a router). System restore would give me a blank page. On a few programms I got the message Registry corrupted so I ran registry 1st aid and System Mechanic which both did change numerous entries but the problems were still there. A little while later, the system automattically rebooted and would load to the blue error screen (dumped to prevent problems). Would not even boot to safe mode.
I reinstalled win xp by trying to upgrade but it would not load a dll file :kbdmd.dll ???" so I had to do a full install which went flawless
Bios does see the hard drives ok.
Per Microsoft support, when I reinstalled win xp the "pointers" in the registry got erased. These tell the system about the hard drive and since I was using powerquest data keeper I would have to call them since their software is making the hard drive invisible
I do not know what you mean by repair install

thanks for respondin
