how do i get a hyperlink to open a new browser window
 
Click on the item that is to activate hyperlink.
Go to SLIDESHOW >> ACTION SETTINGS >> click RUN PROGRAM >> click BROWSE >>
locate INTERNET EXPLORER (other other web browser app) >> done.

Note: Browser will open to whatever the default homepage is.

Or right click on the item or text that is to activate the hyperlink and
choose hyperlink.
There you can either browse for a file or enter an address for the link.

That has sorted one problem but i also need it to open a new window
automatically if it is left clicked (so that the original page is still
there.)

The question's come up any number of times; I don't recall ever having seen a
solution. If the PPT is being viewed in an HTML version, you might be able to
edit the HTML to change the link and force a new window. Ugly ...
