I am currently taking an online course and need to create a power point
presentation. My computer is a little over a year old, Windows XP. I can
not find power point on it anywhere! Everyone keeps telling me it has to be
there and that it comes with all computers - but I can't find it. Anywhere I
can download it or a free trial? I would hate to have to buy the software
for only one presentation. Any help as to where it could be located on my
computer, or about a free download would be appreciated.

Powerpoint is a stand alone application that can be purchased individually
or with MS Office. It is not part of any version of Windows.

Sorry.

PP is not necessarily included with all new computers. PP would only be
included if you upgraded to MS Office when you bought the computer. The
retail for Office XP is about $500, and includes Word, Excel, PP and may
include Access, and Publisher depending on the version of Office you buy.
The upgrade price on a new computer is about $200. Most new computers will
come with a word processor, usually Word Perfect productivity pack or MS
Works (Word) which would not include PP. You can buy PP from a computer
store and install it on your computer, or find it from an online software
vendor. I hope this helps.

Here are some other options you might have to get PowerPoint. As a student,
you might be eligible for the education price, which is significantly cheaper
than the regular price. You might be able to find an older version on ebay
for a good price (just be sure it is the full version and not an upgrade).
Since it is installed on many many computers (but not all), you might be able
to find a computer that you could use to create the presentation at a
friend's house, at your local library, at a local college. You might be able
to rent time on a computer at a place like Kinko's or an cybercafe. You
might buy it anyway because you are likely to use it beyond this one course.

As is so often the case, "everyone" is wrong. ;-)
It doesn't come with all computers and apparently yours is one that didn't
include it.

You can order a trial CD here (though there's no download)

Kathy,

What Steve R said .... but also

There is something called "openoffice" that can open / edit / save powerpoint files.

It's free

Your best bet is probably an old version of the real powerpoint on ebay.
