Save it as a BMP or JPG in Powerpoint.
(File --> Save As)

Do you mean one of the pictures IN the slide? If so, go
to>start>control panel>display>desktop and hit the "browse",
"copy&paste" the pic from your pic saving folder. It will appear as
your desktop wallpaper.

how do you save it as a JPG or BMP

Did you open it in Powerpoint again?
Did you choose file --> Save As?
Did you then look at the File Types you could save the document in?
After you click on "Save As", the filename is not all you get to specify -
the file type is as well.
"Save as Type:" drop down.

Also - using the built in Powerpoint help function and searching for "Save
as BMP" or "Save as Picture" brings up built-in help that tells you this:

1. Display the slide you want to save as a picture (picture: A file that you
can ungroup and manipulate as two or more objects, or a file that stays as a
single object (such as bitmaps).).
2. On the File menu, click Save As.
3. In the Save as type list, select the graphics format you want, and then
click Save.
4. Do one of the following:
- If you want to save only the current slide select
Current Slide Only.
- If you want to save every slide in a presentation select
Every Slide.
