PowerPoint Viewer and PDF LInks

When creating a CD using PowerPoint viewer, links within the
presentation to pdf files open, but they open BEHIND the main
presentation, so users can't see them. They have to assume the links
are open and know about Alt-Tab to switch over. This occurs when the
user's computer has adobe reader installed.

When the client machine has the full adobe acrobat installed, the pdfs
open and can be seen in front of the presentation.

Any suggestions would be most welcome. It seems to be related to the
viewer.

Which versions of Reader and PowerPoint?

With an action setting to Other File (the PDF) and PPT2003, Reader 6, I'm not
seeing this.

Thanks for your response. We are running PowerPoint version 2003
(11.6361.6360) SP1, Reader version 6.0, and the PowerPoint Viewer
version 11.0.5703.

I believe the issue is arising with the viewer.

Hm. I've got 11.5whateverwhatever on this system, Reader 6.0.1 dated 11/3/2003
Viewer is 11.0.5530.0 and am not seeing the problem.

Could it be to do with the PDF itself? Is it set to open full screen or otherwise?
 
Hello Steve,

The .pdfs were NOT set to open full screen. I made this change and
something new an interesting happened:

Upon clicking the first .pdf link after starting the CD ppt
presentation, the pdf opens behind the presentation, as before, but
the ppt screen goes black and stays black until I click to advance or
use alt-tab to switch to the pdf. If I leave that pdf open in the
background and click another pdf link, it opens full-screen to the
front of the presentation as I would like it to.

Is there a way to pre-load the reader so it's already running by the
time a user clicks the first pdf link or is there still something else
going on in your view?

Hi Jeff.

It just gets weirder and weirder, doesn't it?

The PPT screen going black sounds as though it might be a video glitch.
Have you tried the same thing with your video hardware acceleration set all the way
back to see if it behaves the same?

If starting Reader up first solves the problem, though ... hmmm.
Can you start the whole works up from a BAT file rather than by having the user click
on the PPT/PPS icon? If so, the bat might be able to launch a small PDF and then
launch the PPS, one after the other.
