Hi All,
Since I installed SP2 (XP Home) I can't open up .pps in Outlook Express. I
can save them and then they will open. But, before SP2 I had no problems to
open them if someone sent me one in an email attachment.
Any help would be appreciated,
Alice

Hi Sonia,
Found another solution. I installed Office Xp and now I can open .pps in
Outlook Express. I guess it's because PowerPoint is included with Office
XP!!!
Thanks for your reply,
Alice

Yes. The problem is only seen by users who have only the PowerPoint Viewer
installed and who are using Outlook Express. If you have installed PowerPoint
2002, that would resolve the issue.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the Critical
Update or Service Pack 1 for Office 2003 as soon as possible. From
PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for Updates".]

Hello,

This is a known problem with PowerPoint Viewer 2003 on Windows XP SP-2
(Service Pack 2).

Testing has come up with the following workaround.

1) Install PowerPoint Viewer 97 to the same folder as PowerPoint Viewer
2003.
2) Rename the respective executables for the two viewers as follows:
2a) Rename PowerPoint Viewer 97 executable to something OTHER than
"pptview.exe" or "ppview32.exe"
2b) Rename "pptview.exe" (the PowerPoint Viewer 2003 executable) to
"ppview32.exe"

This will "trick" Outlook Express into using PowerPoint Viewer 2003
(instead of PowerPoint Viewer 97) to open attachments.

You can get PowerPoint Viewer 97 from:
