Hi,

I've downloaded PowerPoint Viewer 2003 and it only installs the shortcut,
not the the program itself. My OS is Windows ME and the PowerPoint Viewer 97
has installed without a problem - unfortunately the files I want to view
require later version.

My Windows ME OS is up to date

Do you have C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\PowerPoint Viewer\PPTVIEW.EXE on
your system? If so, that's the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer. If not, do a search for
PPTVIEW.EXE.

Thanks,
I've run a search for PPTVIEW.EXE. without finding it. The only thing I have
is ppviewer which I've downloaded from Microsoft. When I run that, it just
stalls, creating a icon in the program list, without installing the
PowerPoint Viewer. The downloaded PowerPoint Viewer 97 ran through the full
installing process, the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer hasn't done this.

I've done this several times. It always stalls at the same point, with a
notice saying that "PowerPoint Viewer 2003 has been successfully completed"
however below this can be seen one of the installation windows that says
"gathering...." with a progress strip. It stops installing at this point,
with no blocks moving along the strip.

If you go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, do you see
Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 Viewer listed?

Well, then it should be on your system. Are you sure that you don't have
anything under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office?

Yes, I've found that, however, the computer's search program couldn't find
PPTVIEW.EXE. Although looking inside the folders of C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office there is a file named PPTVIEW. Double clicking on the
file itself doesn't do anything

Then I would suggest you go to the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and
remove the Viewer. Then try installing it again. Something is not right on
your system.

I've done this without success. Whilst looking in the non functioning
PowerPoint Viewer's folders I notice that unicows is part of the program.
I've had problems with the latest verion of Microsoft Messenger that couldn't
find unicows (I've gone back to my old version). I'm wondering if unicows is
part of the problem.
