Powerpoint templates

Utilizing 2003 templates causes Powerpoint program to lock up prior to
opening. I can see the presentations using Viewer, but cannot open the
program itself. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
 
First would be to note if it is just one template or all templates that
cause the problem (ie. is it a corrupt template or the actual app having the
problem?).

If it is with all templates (a problem with app), I would open PPT >> HELP

That could be read a number of different ways. Here's one possibility:

You created a presentation using PowerPoint 2003 and one of the templates that
came with it, saved it as a PPT file. Now you can't open the presentation
again.

Is that correct?

Have you done Help, Check for Updates and applied SP1?
 
Troy, that is just the point. I cannot open the program. I'm running Office
(PPT) 2000, and made the mistake of adding a 2003 template. Thus the problem.

No. That's not what happened. I have not been able to open the program (2000
version) since I downloaded a template (2003 version). That is what I believe
is causing the inability to open the program itself, generating a Visual
Basic Runtime Error, stopping the opening in its tracks. Does tha make sense?

What exactly did you download, and from where?
A template is, for all intents and purposes, a PPT file with a special file
extension. If it's really just a template, it can't cause this kind of thing.

If it's an installable package that includes an add-in, it might well cause
problems.

That's a good point. In googling all over, I came across such a Runtime
Error as I've described, having to do with our friendly "updated" Installer.
From what I can see, this is the little culprit, not the template download.
But, there is no fix identified, other than to contact the vendor (Microsoft)
for a solution...might you have one?

Er, whose friendly updated installer?
And have you contacted MS?

Windows Automatic Update lists installation history. MS Net Framework 1.1,
Security Update IE Service Pack 1, DirectX 9.0c End User Runtime, Root
Certificates Update, the last couple on Oct. 28, about the time Powerpoint
decided to lockup. And no, I didn't contact MS due to prohibitive costs for
'advice'. Er, does that help?

Not really, I'm afraid. Can you refer me to the url that describes the specific runtime
error you got? We're short on specifics here.
