PowerPoint pictures switch places

I have also had this problem in PowerPoint XP. It is new
to me there. I think that it comes from saving a
presentation to a server or external drive. A save
situation that causes a long save time. Also copying and
pasting as mention by another user.As you, I am trying to
figure this out. Let me know if you are saving and
opening your files this way. It also happens to me when
charts are linked to a source and then removed from that
source by putting on another computer. Let me know your
thoughts if you have time.

Hi,

From what I have experienced, there is a difference between what we term red
ex.'s. One is a big red X right across the slide, or across where an image
or chart used to be. To me, that is a resource issue and amply covered in
the FAQ.

The other type is a little red x drawn in the top left of where an image
should be. To me, that is a picture unavailable issue. The latter is dead
easy to reproduce. Insert a picture into a PowerPoint file by selecting
"Link to File". Then save your presentation, close it, delete the original
image, then reopen your presentation. The little red x appears. This means
that PowerPoint can't find the source image. If you get a little red x,
either the image was linked and shifted, or you need to reinsert to fix it.
Something has gone wrong somewhere, in this case.

As for pictures switching places, I have also experienced this. In your
case, is there a logic to how the pictures moved? For example, do a number
of them all jump down the presentation by one slide? Any noticeable
patterns?
