Powerpoint paragraph formatting should work like MS-Word

When I want to format text on a slide, why can't in function like MS-Word
using the FORMAT/PARAGRAPH command?

?? What exactly is it you need to do?

You can select a textbox or text placeholder and format all of the text in
it using Format|Font and also Format|Line Spacing.
