Up until last night PowerPoint 2003 was working just fine. Now, when
I try to open ANY of my Powerpoint files, it says it "Can't Read"
them. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and repaired, and added and
removed this and that several times in the last 12 hours, and I still
can not get it to work. I can't tell you the number of times I've
restarted my computer now. I have Powerpoint 97 and even though all
my files were saved for use and created in 2003, they still will open
in 97 (they of course just don't look right.) These are important
files related to things I do from the home, and without them, I'm in a
world of trouble. Please help!

Uninstalling and reinstalling often worsens the situation because you may forget
that there is a Service Pack to be applied as well. Have you gone to Help >
Check for Updates and followed the links to Check for Updates? You need to
ensure that when you go to Help > About PowerPoint that it says that the current
version includes the Service Pack.

What happened last night? Did you make any changes to your system or to
PowerPoint? What is the full exact text of the message?

The full message says: "PowerPoint can't read" followed by the
directory and file name of the presentation I can't open. After all
this happened, I built a new presentation in PowerPoint 2003, then
closed the presentation (not the program) and tried to re-open it, and
I still got the error message. I will try getting the service packs
now.

I bet you have Norton Antivirus
GO into the options menu , under MISC or somethign there is an option to
protect Office Documents
Uncheck, and do us a favor and bin Norton, is bloatware

lost?
