For some annoying reason, when launching an embedded hyperlink,
PowerPoint seems to be taking over instead of the browser & is
launching & trying to render the URL content instead of my browser
doing this.

Is there a fix to this?

Need more info, please:

What's the link embedded in?
What application are you using to view whatever file the link's embedded in?
What's the content of the link?

Steve:

It seems to occur on any hyperlink embedded withinin any eMail message
I access through Outlook. Basically, PPT hijacks the process & tries
to open up the link within itself instead of letting my browser do the
job.

I use Mozilla Firefox for the browser which will launch/take me to the
linked URL, however PowerPoint launches first & I have to wait while
it tries to render the content (a web page) within PowerPoint. I then
I have to close PowerPoint & the process happens all over again if I
click on additional hyperlinks.

Frustrating ... & strange. Any ideas why this is ocurring?

Not a *clue* ... but if it were mine, I'd look for oddities in the way .html, .htm and
such are registered.

This is focused more on fixing broken PPT associations but it may help:

Did you ever find a cause for your issue? I ask because i need to do the
opposite of your issue. Currently if you click on a PPT hyperlink on our
website it opens the PPT file in a browser in Kiosk mode. I need it to open
in Power Point.
