OS: Windows XP
Office 2003 version 11.5529.5606
Receiving the error "The Microsoft Organization Chart Server application can't be found. Contact your system administrator to install this server application" when trying to edit a Powerpoint 2000 Org chart.

However creating an Org chart in PowerPoint 2003 works great.

Somethings that have been tried:
Checked permisions on Windows Directory.
Ran "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Graph.exe" /regserver
Disabled Antivirus software (Trend Micro)
Reinstalled Office

I can replicate on every install of Office 2003.

I'm at a loss.

Thanks for the help,
Tim

You probably need to download and install MS Org Chart 2.0, in which case
you are in luck. I don't know if it's publically available yet, but the
URL is
http://download.microsoft.com/download/D/0/9/D09F6E71-D39C-41DF-8DCF-89F655266CEE/msoc2.exe .
That's the download file, but there don't seem to be any installation
instructions. I would imagine that if you double click on the downloaded
file, a dialog will appear.

Microsoft recommends that organizations begin to migrate their org charts to
Visio or other the native diagramming tools in PowerPoint.

I'm glad to hear that you like the new, built-in diagramming feature of
Office 2003 for creating Organization Charts (and other types of diagrams).

The reason that you are having difficulty trying to edit your legacy charts
from earlier versions of Office is that the The MS Organization Chart 2.0
(MSOC2) application is no longer provided with Office products (beginning
with Microsoft Office System 2003) and, if upgrading, it is removed from
the system because it is "discontinued" technology.

If, in the short term, you still need to edit organization charts created
using the old MSOC2 tool, you can download the tool from Microsoft Office
Online:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/D/0/9/D09F6E71-D39C-41DF-8DCF-89F6552
66CEE/msoc2.exe

In the long term, you should begin to recreate your charts in either the
new diagramming feature of Microsoft Office System 2003 or, for more
complex charts, look at using the great Organization Chart features
available in Microsoft Visio 2003.

How does this work? Is it like OLE or can you save them and import them to
PPT?

My preference is to use the drawing tools of PowerPoint, including
autoshapes, rectangles, elbow connectors, etc.

Visio is a Microsoft product, so you can use it to create org charts and
then insert them in various ways.
