Is it safe to use the internet for web surfing, and use
regular programs like games when your logged in as a
power user? Thanks

Sure. Just make sure you are following best practices for safe personal
computing. - Use a properly configured firewall, use an antivirus program that
also scans emails and keep the virus definitions up to date, and keep up to date
with critical updates at Windows Update. -- Steve

NO,
Even with a firewall enabled and an always on anti-virus, you
are not safe in every part of the Internet. There are many websites
downloading Viruses and/or Spyware, keyloggers and Trojans into your
computer when you only visit their web pages. Below is the address of
a
website that put a virus into my computer when I was only visiting
their web page:
-------

pears_13.htm
Using McAfee and IE6 I get the following....
11/10/2003 10:49:47 AM Deleted D:\temp\TemporaryInternet
Files\Content.IE5\Y1SJU525\britney-spears-hot-pics[1].htm\000061d5.js
- JS/Seeker.t
------
Also, do not open files and programs from any website. Some of
them want you to install a program to be able to visit their pages.
Many porn sites put tracking cookies and Sexplorers inside your
computer.
To have the best security when surfing the web use an always-on
updated Anti-Virus, a firewall (ZoneAlram is my choice) and set
your IE security setting to at least "Medium". Also, do not open
or download files from any web site. If you are using XP pro, try to
disable
"Messenger Service" By downloading and installing Ad-Aware 6.0 from
lavasoft:

Also you should install all Windows updates to keep safe surfing.

This is really a philosophic, or subjective, question
To me, the question is whether an individual's usage
practices are safe, not whether a machine in this or
that state used by an account of this or that category
is safe.
If someone lets something happen, for example while
using a download sharing program, then they have
allowed it to do what it can.
Now, the power of the account and the quality of the
system configuration will limit the extent of what can
be done once allowed, but none-the-less, things that one
does not want to happen can happen if allowed.
In other words, systems are not safe, and account types
are not invariably safe, although these do have more safe
and less safe. It it usage practices that are safe or not.
