One of my kids iniatiated the Power up password and does
not remember what the password is. Is there anyway to
disable this? Safe mode perhaps? I cannot get past it to
the main windows screen. Thanks

Does this password prompt appear before the Welcome Screen is displayed? If
so, then you have a BIOS level password and you'll need to consult your
computer's manual for instructions on how to reset this.

If its the Welcome Screen that's password protected.......

For XP Pro: Press CTRL-ALT-DEL, twice at the Welcome Screen. Enter
Administrator and any password that you may have put on the Administrator
account at setup, if any.

For XP Home: Boot the computer into Safe Mode and the built in Administrator
account will appear on the Welcome Screen.

To reset the BIOS password, you will need to open the
computer box. If you are not comfortable doing this,
DON'T. Open the box and on the mother board you will see
a battery. It looks like an oversized watch battery. If
this can be easily removed, remove it and reinstert it,
this will reset your bios configuration. If the battery
is not easily removable, you should see a jumper close to
the center of your motherboard. A jumper is a small
plastic piece that joins 2 pins on the motherboard, it
should come off without any real effort. The label on
the motherboard will reference the bios. Remove this
jumper and replace it in exactly the same location it was
located. This will also reset your bios configuration.
Best of luck.
