9 out of 10 startups involve my pc automatically dropping into power saving
mode. This message is displayed on the screen and I don't know how to resolve
the problem I'd appreciate any ideas.

I must add that the only way i've also found no way of getting the computer
out of thsi power saving mode

Are you sure it's not just the monitor dropping into that mode? What exactly
does the screen say when it goes into that mode?

Have you tried right-clicking on your desktop and choosing "properties"?
After that, click on the "Screen Saver" tab and then click the "Power"
button if you see one. There are several settings there you might want to
look at.

When the computer goes into power saving mode the screen goes blank then a
blue box in the middle appears saying "power saving mode". The screen then
goes on standby and the computer totally freezes up.
the monitor power settings are: Power schemes all three drop downs set to
never
the enable hibernate box is
left unticked

I don't recall ever seeing the "power saving mode" box on my screen.

Another possibility: Motherboard settings. Have you looked at those. There
probably are some power-scheme settings there as well that are totally
independent of Windows.
