Power saving doesn't work on screensaver

In XP(HE)on my screen saver options I select the power saving modes but they
don't work, even though the screensaver works. I have tried various options
for the time delay, but to no avail. Has anyone any ideas why the hard disk
and monitor won't power down after the prescribed time?

Is it a 3d screen saver, like pipes? If so the power savings won't work, you
will have to change to a normal or blank screensaver for the power savings
to work. If it isn't a 3d saver then I don't know.

Hello, I think any .scr that needs to retrieve files (continually) from the
harddrive negates the ability to use the power save functions.
