Power problems...or something

Okay

I have a mid-range PC running XPhome, and have been encountering the oddest problem with it of late. Basically, my computer will almost never run for more than an hour without shutting itself off - in the middle of whatever I might be doing - and then either shutting down entirely, going into standby mode, or rebooting. Sometimes it will even begin to reboot itself continually

I have attempted booting from a setup disk, with the intention of wiping my hard disk and reinstalling the operating system, but the machine shut itself down before the setup process could complete. Fortunately, it didn't get to enter the phase of deleting your hard drive partitions, so my operating system is still functional. But my computer won't stay on

If anyone has experienced anything like this, please tell me what happened in your case. Any help would be vastly appreciated

Thanks

Sounds like your CPU is overheating, and your BIOS is set to switch off when
it gets too hot.

Or possibly your CPU fan is broke/dead.

Hi

I would consider the over heat problem, either the vedio card or the CPU
Try cleaning the CPU fan, vedio GPU fan and the chassis fans using a can of compressed air

Hope it helps
