Power Point Links Opened By other Users

When users use paste special – paste link – excel workbook command. After he
saves and close the both applications. The users email both files and once
another users open up the files and the links are broken. How are these
links updated and why are these links broken. If there is any more
information you would need please let me know.
 
Yeah that makes sense. So one last silly question. If I where to link this
file from a network location that this other user has access to would i still
have to use that workaround since the file structure would be the same?
