Power Point 2000 no longer recognizes MP3 files?

I created a powerpoint presentation using PP 2000 on my Win XP PC. I used an
MP3 file to add music, and it worked fine. I even created a "pack and go"
presentation to play on other PCs, which worked fine. It worked fine for a
while. But now, when I open the presentation to play it on the PC I created
it on, it states it no longer recognizes the MP3 as a valid format for music.
And now I can't create any new presentations using MP3's, either. Did
something change, either with PP or with Media Player that may have caused
this change?

This was exsactly the problem! The MP3 Codec was missing from my registry!
I followed your instructions, added it back in, and rebooted. Lo and behold
- problem fixed! I have Real Player, and I am willing to bet that it was the
one that may have caused the issue. Thanks for the fix!!!

You might make sure your MCI settings match those in the screenshot at

I think is what you want).

Great!

Thanks to Austin for writing it and Sonia for hosting it. And I pointed you
to it. Sometimes it takes a village. :-)
