I have power point 2003 on my windows xp service pack2 computer, and when I
try to open a pp fle, "edit with notepad" comes up and I can't open it. I
tried to save it to my documents and I still couldn't open it. Do I have to
do a systems recovery in order to go back to when it was created? October,
2004.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for any help.

Right-click on the PowerPoint file, choose "Open With" and select MS Office
PowerPoint. Make sure that the box at the bottom "Always open with this
program" (or words to that effect) is checked.

Right-click on the ppt file, select 'Open With' then 'Choose Program'.
From the list, find Microsoft Office Powerpoint and select it. Click the
check box titled 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of
file' then click OK. You should be good to go.

When I right click on the file, it just says "open" or "open in new window",
no pps offered. If I go to properties, a general tab comes up and says
?showletter.
If go into my pps program, and under the general tab, it says Microsoft
Office PowerPoint Viewer. I just don't get why it doesn't say pp when I
right click on the email file. I don't blame you if you give up on me.
Thanks.

You probably need to set the association for pps files, then try opening
the file from your email program again. Or, just save the file to the
hd, then right-click, click Open With, etc.. It's possible that once
the association is corrected, and you reopen OE (or whatever email
client), the association with PP will be seen.

How do I set the association for power point files? I saved the file tomy
hard drive, but it still opened in word pad.
Thanks.

Right-click the file on the Desktop (or wherever), click Open With,
select PP Viewer, or PP, select "Always use this program". If "Open
With" isn't offered on the context menu, press the Shift key as you
right-click the file.
