I have a Viao laptop. I have tried to change the power
options to fit my needs but every time after I turn the
computer off when I power up again it returns to the
default settings. The default settings may fit someone
elses needs but I would prefer to customize the settings
to meet my needs. How can I permanently change the
settings.

Thanks,

Stan

You need to have administrator rights to change power options. In any case,
if the computer belongs to a domain, the group policies in effect may reset
any changes you try to make.

In addition to Rocky's suggestions, Sony supplies its own Power Panel on
many laptops which can, AIRC, overide or interfere with the XP Power
Options. Access the Sony Power Panel from the executable PcfMgr.exe,
located in C:\Program Files\PowerPanel\Program\PcfMgr.exe, at least on
my Vaio.
