I have been trying for two days to post a request for
help. Clearly I am doing something wrong since my post
never seems to appear on the board. What is wrong (he
asks plaintively and with little hope that this post will
make it)?

Thanks be ... I found it. Who ever knows how I can delete
it now, would you tell me plears? I will post my request
for help after I clear up this confusing set of msgs.

Thanks,

Bob

This happens to me often. I can find my posts if I use the find function
when they don't appear (to me at least) in the public pane. If you find out
why, let me know too.

If you are using a newsreader (Outlook, Netscape Messenger, etc.) you
should be able to cancel a post of yours - try rt-clicking on the
message and see what the options are. I wouldn't be all too concerned
about it though.

The problem with canceling a message is that even if you do it
quickly, it's often already propagated through usenet.

I have the same problem not being able to find my posts.
I can't find them using the "Search" function. Is there
a "Find" function and where is it. Thanks Mac

Setup a newsreader, the web based format not a very easy way to access the
newsgroups.
For a better newsgroup experience. Setup a newsreader.

Eventually the cancel message command will propogate.

Are these forums on usenet? I thought they were just at microsoft.

The reason you're having the problem is that you are using the
web interface to read this newsgroup--it's the slowest,
clunkiest, most error-prone method there is.

Do yourself a favor and switch to using a newsreader instead,
such as Outlook Express, which comes with Windows.

Please reply to the newsgroup

Yes, but only after the message has been read by thousands of
people all over the world. Canceling a message isn't much use
unless you stop people from reading it.

microsoft.

They are also carried on Usenet.

Yes, but many, if not most, news servers no longer honor cancel request,
owing to the number of rogue cancelbots out in the wild. Once something
is downloaded onto someone's PC (happens instantly with broadband)
cancel becomes a matter for the newsreader, not the ISP.

These are not forums, these are usenet NG which MS contrive to make look
like forums (with all the drawbacks and none of the benefits of real
forums).
