Pammyam

I installed SP2 and my wonderful XP Pro system is now sick. I am getting
freezes right and left.

How do I get rid of Dr. Watson Post Mortem Debugger? It seems to be a
problem. I've turned Error Reporting off since SP2 turned it back on.

Or should I just System Restore and wait until SP2 is better?

I have ZoneAlarm 5.1 and the XP Firewall is off.
I have EZAntivirus, but not the firewall.

System loads much slower after the several reboots that I've done.

Thanks.
Pam

I found the instructions for getting rid of the Dr. and followed although it
didn't say it applied to XP, but since I found the link at Kelly's Korner, I
figured it would be okay.
BTW, the freezes were occurring when I tried to bring up the Task List and
when I tried to open XP Help.

<speak of the devil> Is it a laptop, Pam?

Does disabling ZA and/or the EZAV make any difference? (I will *assume*
<sniff> that EZAV was disabled prior to installing SP2. <wink>)

Did you delete TIF and contents of TEMP folders and defrag before installing
SP2? Have you done so after installing it?

I've found SP2 a very big annoyance, but one thing that I do like. I've had
improved performance. It takes half the time to start than it did. I think
it works better on some systems than others. Once in a while I want to try
Linux out because I know it's not as bad as people try to make it be, but
Windows is so much more supported and universal as far as hardware and
software...

Hey, PA Bear! I had read up on things thanks to your message a week or two
ago and I am bad for not reviewing, tsk, tsk.
Yes, sir, I turned off the firewall and the av program before installing.
Of course!
No, sir, I didn't delete TIF immediately prior to downloading, but usually
clear the cache whenever I shut down the various browsers (Firefox, Opera,
Slim, Mozilla) and I seldom use IE other than for Windows Updates.
No, I didn't defrag, but had done so recently.
Alas, I seldom think about the TEMP folder.
For the moment, I seem to have done something that has worked in all my
finagling, but I did put the Dr. registry key back in.

Since I'm turning in for the night, I'll tend to the the temp folder and run
Defrag and dream of XP bliss. I'll try alternately disabling ZA and EZ if
there are more woes.

Thanks!
Pam
