I have about 5 systems that all of a sudden started to
lock up and found out it was to do with Automatic
updates. If I shut down the service they work fine but if
service is on they lock up after a minute or 2. I am
running Symantec corporate AV but it finds nothing but
have read on the internet that there is a trojan horse
that replaces the Automaic updates file but could not
find any more info on it. Any help?

Do you read the BugTraq newsgroup? There is a thread dealing with the latest
SP for WinNT and a glitch in the autoupdate that sounds very similar.
Personally, I disable all the autoupdate features and perform this function
manually. I have six systems I maintain and the job is not too bad. You're
experience should be similar since your network is the same size, but YMMV.

Sorry, I missed that part. My apologies - I shouldn't read these while
working I guess :)

Have you done any scanning for spyware/adware? Symantec doesn't catch a
lot that stuff (since most are not actual viruses or trojans) and
spyware can slow a michine down to a crawl and hog network bandwidth, too.
