I was installing Windows XP on a machine for my business, and everything
went smoothly, even tested the harddrive overnight and it was fine. As soon
as I installed Service Pack 2, during the load of Windows, it locks up. The
loading bar of the 3 green dots just stop.

I stressed over this machine for the rest of the day, even changed parts out
to see if it was damaged hardware.

I got the machine to finally work after replacing the Pentium4 processor
that had a 1MB cache with one that had a 512KB cache.

Has anyone else been getting this weird problem because of the 1MB cache?

You have a Prescott CPU (with the 1mb cache). Yes, there are known issues
right now, on a motherboard with i865/i875 chipsets . See:

If your motherboard isn't listed, please let me know what it is, either post
here or my email address is on my website (under my sig). The 512k CPU is
a Northwood, hence your apparent 'cure'!
