Possible Hardware conflict under WinXP

Ok, this problem started out a month ago. My graphics card failed and I went out and bought another one and shortly after I put it in I started having serious errors. The computer would freeze in the middle of a graphics-intensive operation, and then go to a blue screen which announce that there had been a serious hardware fault and that Windows had been shut down to prevent damage. I returned this graphics card, amidst much controversy, and obtained a new and more expensive one. Putting this card in seemed to solve the problem, for two weeks, and then I started having the same problems again. I installed SP1 and this changed the symptoms slightly- instead of going to a blue screen, Windows merely reset in the lowest possible graphics setting and suggested that I restart. I solved this problem momentarily by getting the computer to start with the last known good settings. This solved the problem, but left me with Windows' own graphics driver, therefore not using the card to it's fullest

It was suggested that a low power source may be sapping powre from vital areas, so I got a better one. And then, last night, I spent four hours reformatting the computer, again at the suggestion of experts (not on here). The computer ran fine for the first few boots, and I reinstalled the better drivers. This morning, I turned it on to play CounterStrike, no problems at all. It ran perfectly. This afternoon I turn it on, and within ten seconds of starting CS, it locks up and boots me back into Windows on the lowest graphics setting. I try running it in the last known good settings, with no luck. I'm currently running in VGA mode, which is stable enough for me to come on here and write this post. There have been minor issues with the sound, for example, sometimes it goes mono, then comes back to full stereo... I'm using a sub-woofer, if that matters. And for a time, the modem was kicking up a fuss and wanted to change COM ports every time I went online. The modem appears fixed now. But I'm at a complete loss as to what to do. Please, can anyone help

Parts have names of makers and model numbers too. There are
name brands like ATI and NVIDIA, and there are lesser brands
that use chipsets from these companies. Then there are
really unknown parts out there. The motherboard and
graphics card must work together with the CPU. Some games
will stress a system more than others, but the system will
either run well or just slower, your problems seems to be a
moving target, or several different problems.

Repost to this same thread with some hardware details.
