The popup "Messenger Service" ad that is trying to sell a
program to prevent popups continually popups on my
desktop, in my word documents, etc. T he message
says "Message Alert Service To Computer User. To Stop
Messaenger Popups and advertisements bo t o www.enads,com
to get your software in minutes".
I went to an HP website and found out that "This annoying
form of advertising is sent to your computer through a
built in feature that was included in Windows 2000, NT,
and XP. Is there any way that I can get this thing removed?

Did you ever get an answer to this absurd thing Microsoft
did? I too would like to get rid of this annoying thing.
Can you email me at (e-mail address removed)

Thanks
Jayne

Greetings Jayne,

What you're seeing is the Messenger service built-in to Windows, *not* Windows Messenger
(which are two different things) which spammers are exploiting -- this is not Microsoft, nor
can Microsoft control them anymore then they can control spam to your e-mail inbox.

To get rid of these pop ups, you'll need to disable the "Messenger Service", click Start,
then Run, enter "services.msc" and click OK. Scroll down to "Messenger", select it,
right-click and then choose Properties. Under startup type, choose 'Disabled' and then
choose the 'Stop' button. After the service is stopped, click OK. Nothing in Windows or any
real third-party applications should be effected by this.
