Hi There,

Can anyone explain to me in simple terms what are POP3 and
SMPT? Can anyone point me to where I can find information
on these?

I am using Outlook 2000 on Win2000. I have an Italian
mail account on Virgilio, which when I was in Italy I
could read and send mail from and to using outlook and
Virgilio's connection. Virgilio do not have a presence in
the UK and now that I am back (in the UK) I am using AOL
as my ISP. Though I can receive mail in Outlook from my
Virgilio account using the AOL connection, I am not able
to send my mail.

Can anyone help me? I am prepared to change AOL as my ISP
as long as I can retain the functionality of using Outlook
in conjunction with my Italian mailbox. Please help!

Many thanks,

Pascal.

You'll need to set the SMTP-server of the UK for your Italian account. Most
providers will pass this along. I'm doing the same for all my ISP mailboxes;
Configure the POP3 servers according to the ISP and configure the SMTP to
the ISP which is actually connecting you to the Internet.

To solve the problem set your pop3 server to
pop.virgilio.it, enter your email address as userid and
your password.
Then set your smtp server to the one indicated by your
Internet service provider (AOL)
