POP3 problem

This one has me stumped!
Nearly everytime when I do a send/receive from Outlook 2003 I get the
following timeout error

Task 'Xtra - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook is unable to
connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive
this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider
(ISP).'

This doesn't appear to be Outlook specific as I get a similar error if I
check my mail using Mailwasher.
I have turned off my AV and firewall but no difference. I've checked with my
ISP and there are no problems with their POP server. I can receive my home
email without problems from work when I'm logged in. I've used the pop3 IP
in the account settings - no difference.

System:
Win XP Pro SPII. Kerio firewall 4. AVG 7.0. Office/Outlook 2003.
Stand alone PC.
On occasion I send/receive with no problems at all. Sending email is never a
problem.
Any ideas? If I've overlooked any info/settings to send then yell out and
I'll supply the info

Have you actually contacted your isp/email provider?

"I've checked with my ISP and there are no problems with their POP server"
I also receive my home account email whilst at work and logged on to Outlook
at my workstation.

I just dropped that error bit into google, removing all the extra
details and there are 254 returns, some of which may be of help to
you, the first one being an MS page for that reported error
(0x80042108)

Cheers Paul, the first x amount I checked all pointed to the same doc (or
similar advice).
Taking Outlook out of the equation (I have the same problem if I use
Mailwasher) I've tried disabling AV and the firewall - no joy.

I'm afraid I'm not techy enough to be able to pull things out of the
top of my hat but hopefully one of the regs will help.
