Thank you for pointing out that uninstalling Messenger
wouldn't do any good. Is Microsoft going to do something
about this???I will NOT install a stupid firewall. I've
wasted money on those before. You might as well save time,
cash and frustration and throw your computer out the back
window because the net result will be the same, except for
the broken window, of course. Besides, I refuse to
encourage hackers by paying blackmail for "programs" to
stop what they are doing!!!! This is ridiculous.

For Messenger Service ads:
You need to install or enable a firewall:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q330904

Disabling Messenger Service can be a good idea, but it does not solve the
real problem.

The ads are not the real problem, the ads are only a symptom of a larger
issue. The real problem is open ports that allow unwanted traffic into the
computer.

Disabling Messenger does nothing for the open ports. You would need a
firewall that controls the traffic.

The above solution will not work if you have AOL as is not compatible with
Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall (ICF). If you have AOL, you should
contact AOL and/or get a 3rd party firewall.

Disable Messenger Service:
Start/Control Panel, click Administrative Tools, click Services.
Go down to "Messenger".
Right click "Messenger" and select Properties.
Hit the Stop Button under Service Status section
Then under Start-up select DISABLE
Click OK and follow prompts

Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:

For internet pop-ups, try one of these:

if ya want to try a good free firewall that works with
xp, type in outpost in search, and popup stopper and/or
stopthepop are good too, between the three they stop 99%

I am very tired of this Pop Crap. I have downloaded and
paid for Adaware and another "pop up" killer but they
dont work. Thanks Billy for another nerfed product.
Anyone know how to kill these damn pop ups ? seems
Microsoft dont give a damn about it but it annoys teh
piss outta me.
