pop ups

I am having the major issue with pop-ups from Windows
Messenger. This is just rediculous that nobody can tell
me how to stop these messages from occurring and the
majority of them are ads to stop the messages. Does
anyone have an answer?

Oh, and the popups are actually from the "Messenger Service", not "Windows
Messenger". The word "Messenger" has become as generic as "Explorer" or
"Web". Everything that sends you messages tends to use that word, so you
need to pay close attention to the words around it.

Don't be tempted to just disable the Messenger Service - it's a fool's
errand, since it doesn't fix the root cause of the problem, that your
Internet connection is allowing any old crap into your system, despite you
not running any servers. Enable the firewall as suggested above, and you'll
know if it ever fails, because the Messenger Service popups will be back!
