Every time I start my computer I get this very annoying pop up. Country
selection. Please select country in which you use HSP 56 modem. I click on
USA and ok.

However, every time I start my computer it pops up again. How can I get
rid of this annoying popup? Windows will not open until I click ok or
cancel. I'm using XP Pro.

Thank you Ed

Go to Control Panel > Modems, select your modem and the country there.
Does the pop up return after this?

You might also try going to Start > Run > msconfig
and disabling entries releted to the modem, like pctspk

Good luck

Thank you Roger for your quick response. I did what you suggested but with
no results. I removed the modem , but that didn't help. I reinstalled the
modem also no results. I also deleted pctspk. Problem remains.

Ed,

Then let's try to slim down the boot up process. Go to Start > Run >
msconfig > startup tab and uncheck all entries. Reboot, and if the
problem does not appear then enable the entries one or two at a time
until you get the culprit.

Additionally, look for any entry related to the modem in the
C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up and C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up folders, and in the
system registry, primarily in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.

Good luck
