Pop up for logon

for no apparent reason I am now getting a pop up from windows security asking
for my user name and password. I used Avast for a long time. the pop up won't
accept my password. My ISP has given me all the help they can. I deleted a
recent update from Vista thinking that may have caused it and went back to a
differenet restore point, no help.

Please help !

In what program? Showing the entire error message, if any, will get you
help faster.

Turning off email scanning in Avast sometimes helps.
