pointer selections without clicking

When I move my pointer over a button, it makes a selection before I click.
How do I stop this? It causes me to send mail before I finish typing, etc.
Please help.

Often that is due to a sick mouse.

I found the answer to my own question. I have a new laptop. there is
something called tapping on the touch-pad mouse thing. At tap equals a
click. It is very sensitive to light touching or untouching. I dissabled
the tap capability. It's fixed.
 
How do you turn off the tap feature?
