Pointer flashes & system slows down

Hi

The Mouse Pointer of my XP-Home Dell NoteBook lately flashes and slow down.
I didn't install any new program to my notebook.
Can any one help me to solve this problem?

Have you done a thorough check for malware using a recent AV program
with current definitions and a combination of anti-malware programs, all
run in safe mode?
