PnP NIC causes XP SP2 to hang

Have a small network with wired and wireless connections, laptop with xp sp2,
desktop with 98se, desktop with xp sp2. All works fine except the desktop
with xp sp2. I have tried two different manufacturer's of wired ethernet
cards, Linksys and Belkin. After I install the NIC, windows xp permanently
hangs during startup.

Try installing the NIC in a different slot.
